Yoga on Country
When we practice yoga, it is important to us to acknowledge Country. We always start our classes in a grounding way to feel our connection to the land and a sense of belonging within a community of people. These pillars of Country, Community and Connection not only shape our yoga practice but are foundational to all aspects of life.
We believe there are so many parallels between Indigenous Australian and Yogic practices, including a deep respect and connection with the land and all its living beings, a strong sense of community and a connection to self and spirit. To us, it makes so much sense to begin each yoga practice by taking a moment to acknowledge Country.
We created our own Acknowledgement of Country for kids to experience during our yoga and mindfulness sessions. We invite children to join in with us and often feel an overwhelming sense of community and connection build within the space by starting our classes in this way. You can join us too!
We touch the ground
To take care of our lands
We touch the sky
Reaching up with our hands
We touch our hearts
And promise to always care
For the Ngunnawal land
That our elders kindly share
We bow our heads
And give thanks we are here
Our body is present
And our mind is clear
